TRAIN & RACE - CYCLADES REGATTA, 30.06.2018-07.07.2018

EVENT DETAILS

The Cyclades Regatta is organized by the Yacht Club Tzitzifies Kallithea (NOTK) the home Club of Olympic medalist Sofia Bekatorou (gold in 2004 in the 470 class and bronze in 2008 in the Yngling class). Over the course of the week, it combines competitive meltemi sailing from one island to another and rest time at each island, making it an ideal platform for active holidays!  This years’ program will visit the islands of Kea, Milos, Kimolos and Kythnos but also includes a set of windward/leeward races during our stay in Milos!

Training for the regatta in Greece will be held on Thunersee using the Grand Surprise or the Archambault A40 yacht provided by the Segelschule Thunersee. Four training sessions of 4 hours each will be held and will focus on sail trim, sail changes and essential maneuvers so that crew positions are finalized based on performance. An additional 4 hour theory course on regatta starts, tactics and the rules will be held at a different date. Dates of the training sessions will be announced after participation is finalized.

Our program in Greece is to check-in at the yacht in the afternoon of Saturday June 30th and sail directly to the island of Kea (15nm). After spending the night at port, we start the regatta the next morning at 11:00 heading towards Milos (60nm). Monday is a rest day and on Tuesday we sail the windward/leeward races. On Wednesday morning we head off to Kimolos (20nm) and from there we leave on Friday heading for Kythnos (31nm). After finishing the last leg in Kythnos, we return the boat to its base at Olympic Marine (25nm) in time for check-out on Saturday July 7th at 9:00.

Around 160 nautical miles could be confirmed if it’s a requirement for your offshore certification.
