NICOLAS LEHNI
My sailing career began on Lake Thun – as a child in an Optimist dinghy, influenced by a family of sailing enthusiasts and fascinated from an early age by the thrill of competition. This was followed by intense years of regatta sailing in the 29er, 420, 470, and J70 classes, with numerous appearances at European and world championships.
Today, I am particularly fascinated by flying over the water: with my Moth, I can reach speeds of over 30 knots, and wing foiling also appeals to me because of the interplay of wind, technique, and balance. The dynamics, precision, and ease of these new forms of sailing never cease to inspire me.
However, my passion is not only for competitive sailing, but also for ocean sailing – as a skipper in Croatia, Greece, or the Canary Islands. I value clear communication, forward planning, a strong team spirit – and well-trimmed sails to get the most out of the boat.
I have been teaching at the Thunersee sailing school for over five years. As a coach, I accompany crews with calmness, enthusiasm, and humor—and try to create spaces where people can grow together, take responsibility, and develop confidence in their own abilities.
For me, sailing is a combination of performance, strategy, and tactics—and at the same time an expression of freedom.
