TRAIN & RACE - POROS REGATTA, 23.03.2025-31.03.2025
EVENT DETAILS
The annual Poros Regatta is organized by the Yacht Club Tzitzifies Kallithea (NOTK) the home Club of Olympic medalist Sofia Bekatorou (gold in 2004 in the 470 class and bronze in 2008 in the Yngling class). It is the first of the three major offshore races the Club organizes each season and everybody is excited to start the sailing season!
Depending on yacht availability, this event will be held with the Beneteau First 36. Two highly experienced skippers will be on board providing all the necessary training to participants and securing safety and seaworthiness throughout the training and the regatta. more...
NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS
The event will only take place if there are 6 participants. These and the 2 skippers will share the accommodation plan which includes 3 double cabins and 2 single berths in the communal area. A full galley, heads with hot water are also available. Before the event, a group chat will be set up to provide final details and answer any questions. To date, there are 5 available spots.
WHEN & WHERE
The yacht charter begins and ends at Olympic Marine near Lavrion about 30km from the Athens airport. Check-in is on Sunday March 23rd at 17:00. On the next morning we will start the four day training session sailing to Marina Zea in Faliro which we will use as our sleep-over location for the remaining days up to the regatta. Leg 1 of the regatta starts at 16:00 on March 28th. Most part of this leg will be sailed at night! Leg 2 starts on Sunday March 30th at 11:00 from Poros. After finishing the leg of the race at Faliro, we will return the boat to its base in Lavrion (32nm) in time for check-out, which is on Monday March 31st at 09:00. Return flights can be arranged after that.
COST
Per person the cost is 1,800 CHF. If you are a Sailbox Skipper or a Segelschule Thunersee client, the cost is 1,700 CHF. This includes:

Yacht charter (full set of sails for the regatta, linen, towels, final cleaning)

Charter deposit insurance and regatta insurance for the yacht

Regatta registration fees

Hands-on training on helming, sail trim, sail changes and manoeuvres

Regatta start, tactics and rules 4 hour theory course including course material available to download

Skippers/Instructors fees
Each participant should also account for:

Around 130€ towards the “bord kasse” which should be enough to cover diesel-water top up, marina fees and supermarket costs for breakfasts and lunches on board. Skippers are exempt from "bord kasse"

Food and drinks plus travel to and from Athens

It is customary that skippers' dinners are paid by the crew
CANCELLATION
The penalty for cancellation is 50% of the fee if you cancel by February 20th, otherwise 100%. If you cancel and your spot is filled by someone else, your fee will be returned.
RELEASE AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY
Participation is conditional on providing a signed copy of the Release and Waiver of Liability Agreement here
CLOTHING
All participants are required to wear adequate clothing depending on the weather conditions. Foul weather gear, sailing shoes, sailing gloves, hats, sunscreen are essential. If you might get cold at night, bring your sleeping bag.

Basic boat rules to be adhered by all participants

During the event, keeping the yacht and all its communal areas clean and tidy is the responsibility of all participants

All participants will respect others privacy

Alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs will not be consumed while at sea. While not underway, alcoholic beverages may be consumed, provided they do not hinder the participants’ seamanship

Failure to comply with the above rules or failure to adhere to the skippers recommendations, may result in the skipper ending your participation at his discretion

For your safety and well-being, medical conditions should be disclosed to the skipper prior to the event so that they can be relayed to medical personnel in case of injury or communication inability

If you are concerned of seasickness, you should consult with your doctor

It is recommended you have adequate travel and accident insurance
HOW TO REGISTER
Registration is open and your spot is reserved when you have transferred 50% of the event fee to the bank details that will be emailed to you. The remainder of the fee is due on January 20th. Please fill in the Registration Form and we will contact you with the next steps.
