TRAIN & RACE - POROS REGATTA, 25.03.2019-01.04.2019

EVENT DETAILS

The annual Poros Regatta is organized by the Yacht Club Tzitzifies Kallithea (NOTK) the home Club of Olympic medalist Sofia Bekatorou (gold in 2004 in the 470 class and bronze in 2008 in the Yngling class). It is the first of the three major offshore races the Club organizes each season and everybody is excited to start the sailing season!

Depending on participation, this event will be held with one or two boats. Two highly experienced skippers will be on board each boat providing all the necessary training to participants and securing safety and seaworthiness throughout the training and the regatta.

Our program is to check-in at the yacht(s) in the afternoon of March 25th and after spending the night at port, start our 3 day training before the regatta begins. The aim of the training is to get everyone in sync with the boat, practice sail trim, sail changes and essential maneuvers and finally allocate crew positions based on crew performance. The training also includes a 4 hour theory course on regatta starts, tactics and the rules.

The regatta consists of two legs. The first leg (29nm) is from Faliro (just off the southern coast of Athens) to the island of Poros on March 29th. This leg could include racing at night, since the start is at 16:00! The second leg (28nm) is from Poros to Faliro on March 31st. March 30th is a rest day at Poros, a picturesque island with hospitable and friendly residents.

Around 150 nautical miles could be confirmed if it’s a requirement for your offshore certification.
