The annual Poros Regatta is organized by the Yacht Club Tzitzifies Kallithea (NOTK) the home Club of Olympic medalist Sofia Bekatorou (gold in 2004 in the 470 class and bronze in 2008 in the Yngling class). Depending on yacht availability, this event will be held with the Beneteau First 36. Two highly experienced skippers will be on board providing all the necessary training to participants and securing safety and seaworthiness throughout the training and the regatta.
The aim of the training is to get everyone in sync with the boat, practice helming, sail trim, sail changes and essential manoeuvres. After the first day, crew positions will be allocated and fixed for the remainder of the training, based on crew competencies and their preferences. The training also includes a 4 hour theory course spread over the training days on regatta starts, tactics and the rules. Course content is available for download.
The race consists of two 29nm legs from Faliro (just off the southern coast of Athens) to the island of Poros on the 28th and then from Poros to Faliro on the 30th. March 29th is a rest day at Poros, a picturesque island with hospitable and friendly residents.
Around 150 nautical miles could be confirmed if it’s a requirement for your offshore certification.
